What is a Barcode Generator?

A barcode generator creates machine-readable barcodes from text or numeric data. Barcodes are used in retail, shipping, inventory management, and countless other applications to encode information that can be quickly scanned and processed.

This tool supports multiple barcode formats including CODE128 (versatile alphanumeric), EAN-13 and UPC (retail products), CODE39 (industrial), ITF-14 (shipping containers), and more. Each format has specific use cases and character requirements.

All barcode generation happens locally in your browser. Your data is never sent to any server, ensuring complete privacy and security.

Supported Barcode Formats

CODE128

High-density barcode supporting ASCII characters 0-127. Widely used in shipping and packaging. Excellent for alphanumeric data with variable length.

EAN-13 & UPC

Standard retail barcodes. EAN-13 uses 13 digits (European standard), while UPC uses 12 digits (North American standard). Used on virtually all consumer products.

CODE39

Self-checking barcode supporting uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Common in automotive, defense, and healthcare industries.

ITF-14

14-digit barcode used for marking shipping containers and cases of products. Based on Interleaved 2 of 5 encoding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which barcode format should I use?

For general alphanumeric data, use CODE128. For retail products, use EAN-13 (international) or UPC (North America). For shipping containers, use ITF-14. For industrial applications with limited character needs, CODE39 works well.

Can I customize the barcode appearance?

Yes! You can customize bar width, height, colors (bar and background), font size for the text, margin size, and whether to display the encoded text below the barcode.

What file formats can I download?

You can download barcodes as SVG (vector format, scalable without quality loss) or PNG (raster image). SVG is recommended for print applications where you need high resolution at any size.

Why is my barcode showing an error?

Each barcode format has specific character and length requirements. For example, EAN-13 requires exactly 12-13 digits, UPC requires 11-12 digits, and CODE128C only accepts numeric pairs. Check the format description for valid characters.
