Days Until Calculator

Days Until Calculator

Quick Presets

Count Down to Any Date

Whether you’re counting down to a vacation, birthday, holiday, or deadline, this calculator shows you exactly how many days remain.

See breakdowns by weeks, months, weekdays, and weekend days for better planning.

How the Days Until Calculator Works

Pick a target date (and optionally name the event), and the calculator instantly shows the number of days between today and that date. The count is calendar-based: both dates are treated as midnight-to-midnight, so the time of day never affects the result. If the date you pick is in the past, the tool automatically switches to “days since” mode, and if you pick today it tells you the event is today.

Worked example

Suppose today is July 2 and your vacation starts on August 15. July has 29 days remaining after the 2nd, plus 15 days of August, giving 44 days until the trip. The breakdown panel would show 6 full weeks, roughly 1 month, 1,056 hours, and the split between weekdays and weekend days in that span.

Understanding the Breakdown

  • Weeks: Whole 7-day weeks in the count (44 days → 6 weeks, with 2 days left over).
  • Months: An approximation using 30-day months, handy for quick planning rather than exact billing periods.
  • Hours: Days × 24 — useful for countdown widgets and event pages.
  • Weekdays vs. weekend days: The calculator walks through every calendar day in the range and classifies Monday–Friday as weekdays and Saturday/Sunday as weekend days. This is the number planners actually need: 44 calendar days might contain only 32 working days.

Quick Presets

One-tap presets fill in the next occurrence of popular dates — New Year (January 1), Valentine’s Day (February 14), the start of summer (June 21), Halloween (October 31), and Christmas (December 25). If a preset date has already passed this year, the calculator automatically rolls it forward to next year, so the countdown is always a real future date.

Common Uses

  • Event planning: Know exactly how many working days remain before a wedding, launch, or conference.
  • Deadlines: Convert “due September 30” into a concrete number of days you can schedule against.
  • Savings goals: Divide an amount you need by the days remaining to get a daily savings target.
  • Fitness and training: Count days to race day and structure training weeks around the weekday/weekend split.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the count include today and the target date?+

The calculator measures whole days between today and the target date, midnight to midnight. Today is not counted as a remaining day, and the target date itself is the day the count reaches zero. For example, from July 2 to July 5 the answer is 3 days.

What happens if I pick a date in the past?+

The tool automatically flips into 'days since' mode and shows how many days have elapsed since that date, along with the same weeks, months, and hours breakdown. If you select today's date, it displays 'That's Today!' instead of a count.

How are weekdays and weekend days counted?+

The calculator steps through every calendar date in the range and tallies Monday through Friday as weekdays and Saturday and Sunday as weekend days. It does not account for public holidays, since those vary by country, so treat the weekday figure as an upper bound on working days.

Why does the months figure look approximate?+

Months vary from 28 to 31 days, so the tool uses a standard 30-day month to convert your day count into months. This keeps the figure consistent and easy to interpret; for exact month-and-day arithmetic between two specific dates, use a full date calculator.

Is this days-until calculator free, and does it work on mobile?+

Yes. It is completely free, needs no sign-up, and all calculations run locally in your browser — no dates you enter are sent to a server. It works on any modern phone, tablet, or desktop browser.
